- Along mountainroad (Rv) 27
When driving along road 27 at sunrise or sunset on a wintry day you will understand
why this region is called ‘De blå fjella’ (the blue mountains). The area from Enden to
Folldal has not been designated a tourist attraction for nothing.
Near Fjelltun there are two sites where architect Carl-Viggo Hølmebakk displays
his ‘sinuous’ structures in a natural environment: Sohlbergplassen and Straumbu.
These sites offer a splendid view of Rondane mountains.
- Special walking regions
In 1962 Rondane was the first region in Norway to be given the status of national
park. Here the last wild reindeer can be found. Rondane offers varied mountainous
terrain with plains of lichen and heather. It is dominated by mighty mountain tops,
such as Rondslottet (2178 m), Storronden (2142 m) and Høgronden (2115 m).
Alvdal Vestfjell lies east of Rondane. The Norwegian tourist board DNT has named it
a region that deserves to be discovered.
- Worth a visit
Sollia church (baroque style). It was built in 1738, in a beautiful location. The interior
was decorated by Swedish artist Erik Wallin. There are guided tours of the church.
The old sawmill in Atnbrua , near the bridge and the ‘waterfall’. Make an
appointment for a guided tour.
Folldal Bygdetun, an open air museum with some fifteen old houses and buildings
on the Fjelltun-Folldal road.
Folldal Gruver – old mines in Folldal – are certainly worth a visit. In summer visitors
can ride into the mines on a train.
